In the context of the government's efforts to improve infrastructure in the maritime transport sector, His Excellency the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Professor Saif Al -Nasr Al -Tijani Haroun, made a visit to the land of the authority of Prince Othman Dakna in the city of Suakin, accompanied by the Director General of the Authority of Maritime Ports Eng. Gilani Muhammad Gilani, and his assistant for operations, Mr. Ahmed Mahjoub Suleiman and a number of directors of departments and specialists.
A complete visit to the field inside the port
The delegation began its tour by listening to a detailed show presented by Captain Taha Mukhtar, director of the port of Sawakin, which included the history and development of the port, absorption energy after the expansion and deepening of the navigation course, and continuous improvements in infrastructure breaks, in particular the departure and the access rooms and the driver services such as the Bains, Cafters.
Captain Taha also underlined the challenges that the port is confronted, above which:
The multiplicity of the authorities responsible inside the port, causing slow procedures.
The accumulation of neglected goods and old vehicles in the rear areas (up to more than 28,000 square meters).
Lack of qualified executives and complications in obtaining spare parts necessary to maintain the mechanisms.
Low a culture of maritime transportation in certain local dealers and high expulsion costs.

The minister and the delegation discussed the case of the cast ship (1), which caused the distortion of the port image and slowing down certain maritime operations, and the field was supported on the situation of the ship, and the Minister stressed the need to withdraw debris as soon as possible, without harming the marine environment, in particular since its reservoirs still contain debris.

His Excellency, the Minister, confirmed in press statements that the port of Othman Dakna, after the introduction of certain improvements, is qualified to be a regional logistics center to serve trade with the Central African countries, because of its strategic location, and its direct connection to the nearest international ports, such as the port of Shanghai, which separates it from Suakin only 6592 km, cut by ships in less than 22 days.
He also underlined the importance of a partnership with the private sector, in particular the Company navy, to support and operate the refrigerated logistics center, and to provide an appropriate environment for supply and export chains.
Obligations and directives
* At the end of the visit, the Minister led a certain number of procedures and recommendations: *
Accelerate the elimination of goods neglected by meaning or expulsion.
Opening of new doors to facilitate the entrance and exit of the trucks.
Accelerate the maintenance of inactivity mechanisms by facilitating import procedures and spare parts.
Increase employment efficiency and expand training and rehabilitation programs.
Support the initiative to establish an integrated logistics center in cooperation with national investors.
His Excellency, the Minister, said that his ministry pays particular attention to the port of Sawakin because it is the southern sea door, and a strategic corridor for public transport trade, in a way that serves the national economy and supports regional integration plans.
